The Oak Ridge Boys Albums for song lyrics and biography.

The Oak Ridge Boys started off as the Oak Ridge Quartet in 1945. After thirty years (and almost as many band members) of singing gospel music, the Oak Ridge Boys reorganized and started focusing more on pop and county music. In September 1977 they released the album Ya'll Come Back Saloon, after which the band stopped changing members and settled on Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, Richard Sterban, and Joe Bonsall.

Richard Sterban had sung in J.D. Sumner And The Stamps Quartet five years before the release of Ya'll Come Back Saloon. During that time, he had backed Elvis Presley live in concert, most notably at the Aloha from Hawaii concert. Room Service and The Oak Ridge Boys Have Arrived met with little success in the last few years of the 1970's, as did Together and Greatest Hits did in 1980. However, the sixth Oak Ridge Boys album, Fancy Free, was a success. The Fancy Free's first track Elvira, written by Dallas Frazier, was and is the Oak Ridge Boys most famous song. It went to #1 on the Country Music Charts, and even hit #5 on the Pop Music Charts. This opened up the Oak Ridge Boys to a much larger audience than they had previously known. The followup album, Bobbie Sue, was another commercial success. The title track from the album also reached #1 on the Country Music Charts, and scored a respectable #12 on the Pop Charts.

In March, 1985, the appropriately titled Step On Out was released. Though not as popular as Fancy Free or Bobbie Sue, Step On Out was notable in much the same way as Pink Floyd's The Final Cut was notable- both albums' titles hinted at the band's future. In the case of the Oak Ridge Boys, Step On Out forecast the removal of William Lee Golden from the band. This move was publicly discussed with the public on account of William's "Mountain Man" lifestyle and unorthodox beard. William Lee Golden himself stated that he felt like the odd man out. The Oak Ridge Boys left the duty of baritone singer with their longtime guitarist Steve Sanders. He continued to sing baritone until William returned to The Oak Ridge Boys in 1997.
